  I do not recommend this business.They will hold your money for months without allowing you to withdraw it.

  I will say upon opening my account, I was greeted nicely despite the renovations that were taking place at the time of opening our account. I can sympathize with businesses that are trying to expand and gain a place in the community as a financial provider. Upon opening the account we were not told that we need to keep a minimum balance of $25 in the account and cannot close the account for 6 months if General Credit Union cannot supply us with service or neglects to do so. I am understanding of errors and mistakes and usually can work with people in a business manner to come up with a solution that can suit everyone involved in a professional manner. However, On Monday Jan 9, 2011 I had a big meeting I needed to attend, I was in somewhat of a rush, and my fuel gauge in my car was on empty. I was passing the credit union when I remembered I had money in the account. I went in and tried to make a with draw and they would not allow me to do so. I then requested that I close the account and they informed me they would not allow me to do so because the account had not been open for 6 months. I also learned that the paperwork that was submitted was incorrect and they could not service my account. So I could no longer use the account. Since I could not use the account, I could not make deposits. Initially I had opened this account to do payroll as they informed me there was no hold on checks. The initial checks from our clients were deposited and funds were made available immediately no problems, (despite the INCORRECT paperwork) they claim to have on their end. Checks went through for weeks and employees were paid. Then upon driving to the branch to make deposit they would not accept the same checks that were from the same clients without putting a 10 to 15 day hold on them. My employees need paid right away so this was unacceptable. I have other banks and CU's that will work so I ended up driving to one of my other financial institutions to make deposits. However after paying for the opening of the account, checks, numerous times of driving there and General Credit union making mistakes with their paperwork and freezing the account, making it unable to close and recoup our money in the account trying to hold the money for 6 months, I would say steer clear of my nightmare. I was left on the side of the road out of gas because they would not close my account or give me money that is in our account because of their mistake. In result, our company lost a big client and we lost revenue. I spoke to Sue Johnson and her response was "So Sue us" and the branch I was at was very impersonal, non-understanding, non compassionate and most of all not customer friendly. In fact you have to ring a bell to even enter their credit union. Its no wonder they have that security feature. You know when they have a locked door during business hours its not a professional customer service establishment. When they hold customers money or funds without consent I can see why the doors need to be locked. Its unfortunate I am taking legal action against this establishment for loss of revenue for our business. Bottom line, steer clear of "General Credit Union" or you will dislike their service in "General."
